Background

My story begins in San Diego, California—a city shaped by vibrant cultures, intersecting identities, and resilient communities. As a second-generation Latina with Indigenous roots and a Chinese last name, I grew up navigating and celebrating a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions within my home and low-income communities.
Later in my life, I came to understand that my unique perspective, deep sense of justice, and relentless determination were shaped by being on the autism spectrum—an lifelong experience that has deeply influenced how I communicate, connect with others, and approach my work in digital marketing and advocacy.
Education
I’m proud to be a first-generation college graduate from San Diego State University (SDSU) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration—Emphasis in Management: Entrepreneurship and minors in Marketing and Geological Science.
My time at SDSU was shaped by curiosity and community—I found purpose through student leadership roles in the Hispanic Business Student Association and Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., where I supported Latinx and BIPOC student success and developed a deep understanding of what authentic representation looks like in practice.
In 2022, I earned my Master of Science in Digital Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Their program was incredibly transformative. It helped me redefine the power of digital storytelling to learn how brands connect with audiences across platforms, build trust, and drive change in an increasingly online world.
It was also where I reinforced my work in ethics and responsibility. Guided by the American Marketing Association’s Code of Ethics, I follow a framework for digital marketing that’s rooted in transparency, respect, and corporate social responsibility—a framework I still bring into every client project.
Professional Path
My career began with curiosity and an eagerness to explore—saying yes to opportunities in startups, corporate sales, and event marketing. I didn’t always know where I was headed, but each experience taught me something new about people, purpose, and the kind of work that inspires me.

I first explored marketing opportunities through a part-time consulting role at Enji, an ethical jewelry startup. In this hybrid sales and marketing position, I took on everything from website design and content creation to social media strategy and SEO. The hands-on nature of the role sparked my passion for digital marketing and taught me the value of adaptability, creative problem-solving, and showing up with persistence in every project.
From there, I moved into a full-time role at Techtronic Industries (TTI) as a Field Sales Representative for Milwaukee Tools. In this fast-paced, customer-facing position, I received formal training in sales techniques and event marketing while managing product demos, merchandising, and store performance. Though it was a shift from my creative work, the role sharpened my communication skills and deepened my understanding of how marketing and sales work together in real time.

Armed with new skills and knowledge, I started an internship at Diversified Communications as a Diversity Exhibition and Event Industry Associate in September 2022. I quickly immersed myself in my role, and through dedication and hard work, I earned an internal promotion to Marketing Coordinator for Smart Energy Decisions in December 2022. While in my role, I had the opportunity to contribute to sustainability initiatives, driven by my passion for making a positive impact through marketing strategies.
And then something clicked. I realized I didn’t want to just support mission-driven work—I wanted to lead it. In 2024, I launched Hilda Chang Consulting with the belief that marketing can be a tool for healing, empowerment, and visibility—especially when it centers BIPOC voices, community care, and cultural integrity.
What is Next for Hilda?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past year, it’s this: when stories are told with intention, and communities are empowered, real change becomes possible.

Since launching Hilda Chang Consulting, I’ve worked alongside passionate leaders, small businesses, and nonprofits across Maine to build digital campaigns that reflect their mission and create genuine connection. Whether through educational content, inclusive storytelling, or strategic donor outreach, each project has been an opportunity to amplify voices, celebrate identity, and bring people together. These collaborations go beyond marketing, they help organizations grow their impact and strengthen their community impact.
This next chapter of my life isn’t just about growing a business. It’s about growing community—about showing up for the places I love and creating true impact with the people who make Maine more equitable. I want to help reshape what marketing can look like when it’s driven by values, vision, and lived experience.
So if you’re in Maine—and you’re building something rooted in culture, community, or justice—I’d love to connect. Because what’s next for me is simple: I’m building something beautiful, and I’m not doing it alone. I need your help.
